We recommend reading through our list of Frequently Asked Questions about WBE certification benefits and the application process. Chances are you'll find the answers to your questions here:
WBE is an abbreviation for Women's Business Enterprise – a woman-owned business that has received certification.
You can find out more about WBE certification by clicking the Certification link above. All applicants must apply online. Click Application to read about how to apply, or go directly to the online application by clicking the following link: http://www.wbenc.org/
The nonrefundable processing fee is based on your companies gross revenue from your most recent 12-month tax return.
Typically only corporations and government entities require a certification. If you have a product and/or service that can be marketed to corporations or the government, your business may benefit from WBE certification.
WBEC-West strongly encourages all businesses to be operational and have existing clientele for at least six months before applying for certification. This assures us that you are able to be independent and can deliver on promised goods or services should you receive a contract.
Once we receive a copy of your application, the notarized affidavit, all mandatory documents and your nonrefundable processing fee, a committee reviews your application in detail. Then a representative of WBEC visits your business. The review and onsite visit take place 60 to 90 days after we receive all your information.
A denied application indicates that your business does not meet the national requirements of being woman-owned, managed and controlled. Any applicant who is denied certification has the right to submit an appeal to WBEC-West. Appeals must be submitted within 30 days of the initial decision. The WBEC-West Appeals Committee reviews your appeal and our Board of Directors makes a final decision. If you choose not to appeal, you may reapply for certification one year from the original date of denial.
